Tomato and Pepper Dhal

I intended to make spinach dhal, however I ran out of the main ingredients. Instead I decided to improvise and use tomatoes and peppers to see how this turns out. It actually turned out really nice and it had a really sweet flavour with a hint of spice. This goes really well with any curry dish. I cannot help but wonder what it would have tasted with the spinach. Oh well...maybe next time.



-1/2 pack of Red Split Lentils

-1 tin of chopped tomatoes

-2 Bell Peppers

-1/2 tsp Cumin Powder

-1/2 tsp Chilli Powder

-1/2 tsp Fenugreek leaves

-1/2 tsp Garlic Paste

-1 knob of Butter



  1. Cut the peppers into diced pieces.

  2. Add water to the saucepan and wash the lentils.

  3. Boil for 15 minutes in salt until the lentils soften.

  4. Drain the lentils until excess water has gone.

  5. Add the chopped tomatoes to the lentils in the saucepan

  6. Add 1/2 tsp cumin,1/2 tsp Chilli Powder,1/2 tsp Fenugreek leaves and 1/2 tsp Garlic Paste.

  7. Add a knob of butter.

  8. Stir until ready to serve.
